An indicator revealed that China’s innovation increased rapidly in the previous year as new growth drivers gained traction and provided a boost for high-quality development.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the China Innovation Index, which measures the nation’s capacity for innovation, increased 5.9 percent from the year before to reach 155.7 in 2022.
Since 2015, which served as the base year, the index has increased at an average annual rate of 6.5%, according to the NBS.
In 2022, every sub-index increased, with the innovation output sub-index climbing 9.2 percent from the previous year. According to NBS data, China authorised 798,000 invention patents in total in 2022—a 2.2-fold increase over the number registered in 2015.
“The emerging economy, which is spearheaded by new industries and businesses, has grown into a major driver for economic transformation and upgrading, and for energizing the economy,” said Li Yin, a statistician with the NBS.
